HÉMERA AND CYBERSECURITY CENTERS U. MAYOR MET WITH CHILOÉ AUTHORITIES TO EXTEND MONCOSTA PROJECT TO THE SOUTH Hemera | Universidad Mayor

The MONCOSTA National Monitoring Network of the Chilean Coast is an initiative funded by ANID and aims to understand the coastal dynamics and determine the erosive processes associated with the Chilean coasts, based on satellite data, hydrodynamic variables, climatic data, sedimentary data and citizen participation.


Led by Idania Briceño and Waldo Pérez, researchers from the Earth Observation Center Hémera U. Mayor, who in collaboration with Cristian Barría, director of the Cybersecurity Research Center, have already implemented MONCOSTA for the Regional Government of Valparaíso and is currently in the process of implementation for the Regional Governments of O'Higgins and Maule.


In this context, on Thursday, April 25, Waldo Pérez, Cristian Barría, Idania Briceño and Benjamín Castro met with Marcelo Malaqueño, Presidential Delegate of the Province of Chiloé; Enrique Soto, councilman of the Municipality of Castro, and advisors of the Presidential Delegation.


The meeting allowed presenting the MONCOSTA project and its main results to the authorities, demonstrating their interest in replicating the study in the Province of Chiloé, agreeing to develop a pilot project in the city and coasts of Castro.

On Friday 26th, the Universidad Mayor team held another meeting, this time with the Mayor of the Municipality of Quinchao, René Garcés Álvarez and his advisory team, agreeing on the development of a pilot project on the coasts and beach of Achao.
