HÉMERA CENTER WINS WETLAND CONSERVATION PROJECT IN LOS NOGALES NATURE SANCTUARY Hemera | Universidad Mayor

The Hémera Earth Observation Centerwas awarded the project "Conservation of high Andean wetlands Hijuela C in Los Nogales Nature Sanctuary", within the framework of the environmental management plan for the sanctuary, which is part of Anglo American's biodiversity conservation strategy, in alliance with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WSC).

Led by Waldo Pérez and Leonardo Durán, together with a team of researchers and assistants from the Hémera Center, researchers from the GEMA Center (Genomics, Ecology and Environment), academics from Forestry Engineering and the hydrogeology consultant INRHED, will be in charge of understanding the current condition of the wetlands and determining possible conservation actions, as well as designing and implementing an integrated wetland conservation plan to improve the current condition.

The project will be developed over two years and will provide continuity to the study "Conservation of high Andean wetlands in sectors adjacent to Los Bronces", commissioned voluntarily by Anglo American to the Capital Natural SPA team, which generated preliminary information on the abiotic characteristics that rule the high Andean wetlands of the Hijuelas C sector, as well as the azonal water vegetation systems.
